Thanksgiving Wreath for $5.00

Thanksgiving is around the corner and as much as I want to start making Christmas stuff, I will refrain as this holiday is also important to me.  Plus I will have plenty of time to show you the Christmas stuff I make when it gets closer to that time.  For the first project to show on this blog, I will be showing you how I made this Thanksgiving wreath.  This proudly made wreath is hanging on my door and I've already had a lot of compliments on it (some have even asked where I got it so they can get one!)

.

Do you want to know what my favorite thing is about this wreath? $5.00 is how much it cost to make.  I'll explain in the following step-by-step as to how it was that cheap.

I bought this wreath at Walmart for $2.64.  It was the cheapest wreath I could find, probably because it's a straw wreath.  I don't mind that it's straw as I was planning on covering it with fabric anyway.  I did keep the plastic covering on it in case rain or snow got on it.

Here we have a fall-themed table runner and a small picture frame.  I got both of these at a local thrift store.  Number one rule with me: THRIFT STORES ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND.  Why?  Because I got these two items for .32 cents.  Together.  Not each.  I literally scraped up left over change I found on the floor in my car and paid for these two items.

The next step was stretching out the table runner and cutting it a little less that half way in.  I used the thinner cut on the left side and wrapped it around the straw wreath shown above.

I used a hot glue gun to glue the first end of cloth on the wreath, wrapped the cloth all the way around the wreath (had just enough cloth!) and hot glued down the end.  I was a little worried about the glue holding the cloth down but I found the glue fastened the cloth down pretty snug.

Next I got a roll of burlap and made a bow.  I happened to have an extra roll of burlap laying around, but you can find a roll of burlap at the dollar store (that $1 was included in the price of $5.00).  After I made a burlap bow, I hot glued it to the top of the wreath.

I printed "Happy Thanksgiving" on a tan sheet of paper (feel free to use whatever color you want), cut it out, then put it inside this little picture frame I so cheaply bought at the thrift store.  Then I hot glued the picture frame underneath the burlap bow.

I found this "pumpkin mix spay" at Walmart as well.  The price says $3.98 on it, but it was on sale for 0.99!  I took some of the ornaments off of it as it seemed too full to be on the wreath.  I just hot glued this baby on the bottom right side of the wreath as shown below:

And voila!  We have a Thanksgiving wreath made for $5.00.  It also only took me about a half hour to make.  Cheap and quick!  Please feel to free to comment about any questions or suggestions!

Just a Brief Intro.

Hi there everyone!  My name is Amanda and I love to save money.  Who doesn't?  I wish I could give you a magic formula that will take away all of your financial troubles, unfortunately I cannot.  BUT, what I can do is help you find small, simple, yet efficient ways to keep some extra green in your pocket.

Here's a little background about myself:  I am 26 years old and married, no kids.  I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Social Work from Utah State University in 2014 and I am currently working as a full time hospice social worker (hospice is a type of care that assists those who are terminally ill).  My husband, Kyle, is currently going to school for Mechanical Engineering and has one year left.  We are currently trying to save up for a house but that's kinda hard when you have to fork out thousands of dollars every semester for tuition.........from a social worker's salary (it will be worth it when he's done, right?).  So, my husband and I try to be creative with the ways we save money so we're not stretched so thin financially.

Having a nicely decorated and welcoming home is important to me.  Decorating your own place can be SOOOOO expensive though.  I am never willing to pay full price for, well, anything.  And you know what?  I get away with it.  And I'm going to teach you how you can too.  I'll teach you how to keep your home decorated for a fraction of what craft stores want you to pay.  I will teach you how build things yourself. I will teach you how to save money.  I will teach you that you can make anything!

Throughout my blog, I will be giving tips, tricks, diy's, as well as suggestions for every day life hacks.

Happy building!
